Mike completed his MSPH in Health Policy and Administration at UNC followed by an MD and MBA at the University of Illinois. He did his residency at UNC in Preventive Medicine/Public Health and then started a career in pharmaceutical medicine. His twenty-five year career in the biopharmaceutical industry career has included stints with GlaxoSmithKline, Johnson and Johnson, and UCB Biosciences.

Roles have spanned several functional areas including: Health Economics, Medical Affairs, Epidemiology, and Clinical Development with therapeutic area focus on neurology, psychiatry, gastrointestinal diseases, and internal medicine. Recently at UCB Biosciences, Mike was Head of the Physician Faculty where he oversaw professional development, training, governance, recruitment, and medical ethics/ health policy initiatives for the 200+ physicians at the company. Additionally, he was the Director of the Neurology Drug Development Fellowship and lead the Quantitative Benefit-Risk and Patient Preference Study Initiative. Currently, Mike is the Chief Scientific Advisor for Peachtree Bioresearch Solutions, a contract research organization focused on central nervous system diseases as well as other diseases.
He has published numerous scientific articles on quantitative benefit-risk, patient and physician preferences, utilization of health care, and other pharmaceutical topics. In addition to his training and biopharmaceutical experience, Mike has been an Adjunct Associate Professor at the UNC School of Pharmacy and UNC School of Public Health, where he currently teaches a class in pharmaceutical health policy and drug development.
